Poster, essay writing contests for disaster month

BORONGAN CITY, July 10, 2019—A poster making contest and essay writing contest on Monday at Eugenio Daza Pilot Elementary School in the celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month.

The contests were participated by the different elementary schools of Sta. Fe Elementary School, Lalawigan Elementary School, Maypangdan Elementary School, Sabang Central School and Eugenio Daza Pilot Elementary School, all of Borongan City Division.

According to Mr. Larry Capacite, one of the organizers of the contests, the purpose of conducting such event is to create awareness, especially among the young, the importance of disaster preparedness as a key to community resilience.

“Our community are being bombarded with a lot of calamities. We are in the highway of calamities especially typhoons. In the upcoming months, of course, although we are not expecting it, but preparedness (is necessary)” Capacite said.

This years’ celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month centers on the theme “Kahandaan sa Sakuna at Peligro Para sa Tunay na Pagbabago.”

The winners of the said contests will represent the Borongan City division to the regional contests to be held later this month.

The National Disaster Resilience Month is annual event of the Department of Education pursuant to Executive Order No. 29 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on June 28, 2017 which mandates the agency to promote culture of resilience in the schools.  (Bebelyn Padrique / ESTE News)
