BORONGAN CITY, August 15, 2017–The political party PDP-Laban is gaining momentum in Eastern Samar as hundreds took their oath as new members during a mass oath taking ceremony held in Borongan over the weekend.

Among those who were sworn in were Vice Governor Marcelo Ferdinand Picardal and Taft Mayor Marian Libanan. They took their oath before Senate Secretary Lutgardo Barbo, who is the party’s vice president for the Visayas.

Before the ceremony, a basic membership seminar was held for new members to know more about the party, their advocacies and what it stands for.

Atty Barbo said that more than being a political party, PDP-Laban is also a foundation. “Even if there is no election, the party remains strong because of our social advocacies”, he said.

Barbo also stressed that one of the strongest advocacy being pushed by the party is the change to a federal form of government, which he says will “shift power from Manila to the regions” and empower people in the provinces.

For his part, Vice Governor Picardal said that he decided to join PDP-Laban “to get help for the province”. He said that after attending the BMS, he is “convinced of the party’s main thrust which is to help the ordinary citizens”, and he vowed to support this.
