BORONGAN CITY, October 11, 2017–“The PCSO will give back through charity works that will benefit Eastern Samar.”
This was the assurance of PCSO General Manager Alexander Balutan at the opening of opening of a branch office in Borongan City last week.
Eastern Samareños will now need not go outside the province to avail of services from PCSO. The Eastern Samar PCSO branch has a daily allocation of P50,000 for indigent patients.
According to Balutan, the opening of a branch office here is in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s program of bringing government service closer to the people especially in the provinces.
GM Balutan said that with the strict enforcement of the laws against illegal gambling, PCS0’s earnings from gaming increased by 63%.
He stressed the importance of their agency’s income from the Small Town Lottery or STL and Lotto because for every P10 earned, P3 goes directly to charity. The more earnings they get from gaming, the bigger is their capability to help those who are in need.
Aside from medical assistance for the needy, the PCSO also helps government hospitals especially in the upgrading of their facilities and equipment.
Manager Balutan called on the PNP and LGU’s to support each other in the campaign against illegal gambling. He said that “the PCSO will give back through charity works that will benefit Eastern Samarenos”.
Located inside the Legislative building, at the Capitol compound in Alang-alang, Borongan, Acting Governor Marcelo Picardal led the opening rites. The newly opened branch is PCSO’s 60th branch in the country.
The Catholic church in the Philippines has been wary about the PCSO that has become more of a gambling than a charitable institution. (Eden Cidro/Este News)
