CAMP RUPERTO KANGLEON, Palo,Leyte, February 4, 2018–One person died and eight others were injured when the bus of the city government of Tacloban transporting athletes and coaches to the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) 2018 Meet in Calbayog City figured in a vehicular accident yesterday.
Police 8 Regional Director Chief Supt. Gilbert DC Cruz identified the fatality as Adriano C. Sonio,65, of Brgy.9, Catbalogan City was declared dead on arrival at the Samar Provincial Hospital.
The injured were Maria Evelyn Roque, 22, of Elena Roque, 62, of Brgy.Binuanan; Ricardo M. Paragatos,47; of Brgy.Munoz; Eusebio P. Lama,49,of brgy.9; Danilo Esguirdo,41; of brgy.Maulong; Monalisa J.Cuna,44; of Brgy.Malobago,Jiabong,Samar; Nelso M.Quijano, 39, of Motiong,Samar; Maria P.Leyson,34, and Rod Leyson, of Brgy.Valles, Daram,Samar.
Cruz said the Hino bus bearing plate no.0-73200 driven by one Anicete Lumbre Banadora , of Tacloban City encountered a mechanical trouble at Rizal Avenue, Catbalogan City and rammed the victims who were aboard a motorcycle.
The bus driver is now detained at the Catbalogan City Police Station and criminal charges are now being prepared for filing in court.
The Hino bus was given by President Rodrigo Duterte to the city government of Tacloban intended for the use in transporting survivors of Super Typhoon Yolanda from the city proper to the Yolanda resettlement sites in northern barangays of the city.(Nestor L. Abrematea / Visayas Times)
