BORONGAN, March 1, 2017—The office of the Ombudsman ordered the suspension of Borongan City mayor Maria Fe R. Abunda who was found guilty of simple neglect of duty.

Abunda, along with city accountant Diane B. Cinco and city generalservices officer Ariel V. Cuna were ordered suspended for three months without pay for failing to submit documents for the procurement of a garbage compactor, trash receptacles and a multi-purpose truck.

The complaint against the city officials cited an audit observation memorandum and later notices of suspension from the Commission on Audit.

COA noted that supporting and contract documents for the mentioned equipment in the total amount of P13.093M were incomplete and named the city officials as the ones responsible for complying the requirements set by law.

According to the decision from the ombudsman, although the city officials were charged with simple misconduct, they were guilty of simple neglect of duty.

Also included in the suspension order is former city administrator Jose Ivan Agda who will instead be paying a fine in the amount equivalent to his salary for three months. (Medora Quirante / Este News)
