SULANGAN, Guiuan, Eastern Samar–June 8, 2017–Let us work together.
This was how Borongan bishop Crispin Varquez exhorted the parishioners of St. Anthony of Padua parish in Sulangan, Guiuan, Eastern Samar who were gathered for the celebration of the Parish Day on June 6, 2017.
“We have to work together because we have only one Church, one God and one baptism,” said Varquez.
Varquez heads the diocesan Commission on Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) that spearheads the parish day celebrations in all the parishes of the Diocese of Borongan in order “to highlight the celebration of the Year of the Parish and the 100th apparition of Our Lady of Fatima.”
The bishop emphasized collaboration, participation and communion as key to animating parish life, especially in the context of basic ecclesial communities.
For his part, Msgr. Alredo Amistoso, parish priest of Salcedo, Eastern Samar, rendered an introductory talk on the theme of the Year of the Parish which is “Forming BECs as agents of communion, participation and mission.”
The overarching theme of the Parish Day celebrations in all parishes of Borongan dioceese is “Celebrate Communion, Listen to the Mother.”
The next Parish day will be celebrated in Mercedes on the 9th of June followed by Salcedo on the 11th. (Alren Beronio / Este News)
