Flood victims in Taft receive relief from GT Foundation, NGCP

BORONGAN, February 1, 2018–Weeks after the floods that caused destruction in some towns, help continue to pour in for residents who were affected.

Over the weekend, Cong. Ben Evardone and officials of Metrobank were in the town of Taft to distribute relief goods donated by the GT Foundation Inc, the family foundation of George Ty, owner of Metrobank.

GTFI gave 1,000 food packs, while NGCP donated 200 packs which were distributed to 1,200 families from Bgys San Rafael, Binaloan, Malinao, San Pablo, Mabuhay and Burak in the town of Taft, Eastern Samar.

“This is our way of giving back to the people for their continued patronage of Metrobank”, said Federico Mariano, area head, Visayas area V of Metrobank. They will also be giving an additional 1,000 packs to be distributed in other towns.

Earlier this month, Evardone has distributed thousands of food packs donated by banks like Security Bank and the Bank of Philippine islands

Meanwhile, Acting Governor Marcelo Picardal has been making the rounds of the towns affected by the floods. He visited some barangays in Borongan that were severely affected, and distributed food packs. He also visited Jipapad, one of the towns most affected by the disaster.

Aside from distributing relief goods, government officials are looking for long term solutions to the problem, such as the possible transfer of barangays that are inundated by floods almost every year.
