Families of slain cops disappointed of Duterte

CAMP RUPERTO KANGLEON, Palo,Leyte, July 3, 2018–Members of the family of the six policemen that were killed in Sta.Rita, Samar two weeks ago expressed disappointment on President Rodrigo Duterte who visited the wake of the victims June 29, 2018 in the afternoon at the Matapat Hall of the Police Regional Office here.

The family of P01 Wyndell Noromor of Matalom, Leyte joined the other families of the victims in airing their disappointment on Duterte as no promise of justice was made by the President during his visit.

“He did not us promise justice. President Duterte just told us that he will give the benefits due to the slain policemen,” a member of Noromor family who refused to be identified told the media in an interview shortly after the President’s visit.

Glicerio Escalo, brother of the late PO1 Julie Escalo, said he just came home from abroad after learning of the death of his younger brother, and now they will call on the Senate for an investigation of the incident.

Escalo said they will not accept the report that it was misencounter and they believed it was a massacre.

“The area was clear and we cannot accept that it was a misencounter. We will call for justice of our brother,” Escalo told media during the President’s visit.

Raychel Escalo, widow of PO1 Escalo told media that she was disappointed as President Duterte never promised justice for the victims.

“He just told us to move on as accident really happen. He just assured us that the benefits will be given to us. Want we want is justice for my slain husband,”Mrs. Escalo said.

Escalo said that since the victims are now brought home to their respective hometowns, they call on the media to help them update the incident as they believe the media can help them expose of what really happened in our that the victims be given justice.

“The amount given to us by President Duterte is immaterial. What we want is justice,” Mrs. Escalo appeals.

The six policemen that died in the Sta.Rita, Samar misencounter that President Duterte visited were PO1 Julie Escalo, P01 Phil Jrey Mendigo, PO1 Rowel Reyes, PO1 Juluis Suarez, PO1 Wyndell Noromor and PO1 Edwin Ebrado, all assigned with the 8th Mobile Force of the PNP assigned in Calbiga, Samar which were killed in an alleged misencounter with Philippine Army soldiers at Barangay San Roque, Sta. Rita, Samar last Tuesday morning.

President Duterte together with Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde and AFP Chief Gen.
