
BORONGAN CITY, July 8, 2019—Over three-hundred policemen of Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office were subjected to random drug test on July 4, 2019.
The surprise drug test was spearheaded by the Crime Laboratory Services of the Philippine National Police Region 8 as part of an internal cleansing in the organization.
This was the first surprise random drug test for this year which covered one-third of the provincial police force.
According to Police Chief Aldo Mendiola, the Chief Admin Division of the ESPPO, majority of those who were subjected to the random drug testing were members of the Municipal Drug Enforcement Unit that are the primary implementers in the investigation and arrest of drug personalities.
“Para masabtan naton ngan malimpyo naton, ma-eradicate an mga users or mga police nga naiinvolve hiton drugs,” Mendiola said. (So that we can identify and clean-up , and eradicate users or policemen who are involved in drugs.)
A PNP personnel whose result is positive of drugs will undergo another confirmatory test utilizing urine samples.
The members of the PNP who will emerge positive will be subjected to pre-charged investigation and may be charged criminally or administratively which may result to termination from office.
The random drug test is mandatory to all PNP personnel in pursuant of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 which aims to promote high standards of ethics in the public service such as the police, military, and other law enforcement agencies. (Gio Costuna / ESTE News)
