LAOANG, N. Samar, June 4, 2018–Public Works and Highways Sec. Mark Villar has announced the construction of the Laoang bridge which will connect the island town of Laoang to the main land of Northern Samar.

Villar said the bridge project will be implemented under the “Build, Build, Build” program of the Duterte administration.

He said that the BBB projects of the government is not only concentrated in Metro Manila and Luzon areas but for the entire country.

“I pity the people of Northern Samar as of today they still cross to their island by banca and we will construct a bridge which has long been dreamed by the people,” Villar said.

The DPWH Northern Samar 2nd Engineering District in Laoang town under District Engineer Ferdinand Briones has been directed the study and plan for the bridge project.

Residents of Laoang cross to Brgy. Rawis, still a part of the town in the main island of Northern Samar, using “sampan” or wooden boat that usually takes a travel time of at least ten minutes.

Laoang is one of the oldest municipalities of Northern Samar and the commercial capital of the second district of Northern Samar.

At present, residents of the coastal municipalities facing the Pacific Ocean travel to their towns via Laoang island that takes them to Palapag town and to the coastal towns of Mapanas, Gamay and Lapinig and to Eastern Samar via Buray in Paranas to Tacloban City.
