DILG visits gov’t projects with media, CSOs

BORONGAN CITY–Officials of the DILG, together with media and civil society organizations (CSO) reps visited projects funded by the department to see how are these helping the communities.

Eastern Samar DILG head, Visitacion Giva said that more than making sure that projects are implemented according to specifications, they wanted to see how a civic center, an access road or market, impact on the lives of the people.

We want to see the functionality of the projects”, she said.

10 projects in five municipalities, namely, Arteche, Gen. MacArthur, Salcedo, Guiuan and Balangiga were visited by the CSO – Media tour.

The projects, included the construction of an evacuation center, a level 2 water supply system and rehabilitation of a seawall in Arteche, the rehabilitation of the barangay hall in Vigan, Gen. MacArthur, A rehab of the barangay hall in Caridad and repair of a civic center in Naparaan Salcedo.

Also funded was the construction of a market building in Guiuan and the access road in bgy Cogon Guiuan that is now making life easier for thousands of residents who have transferred to the relocation site in Cogon, while Balangiga town is a recipient of a new 5-stall market building.

These projects were funded under the RAY (Rehabilitation Assistance on Yolanda), PAMANA, BUB, and the Assistance to Disadvantaged Municipalities and implemented by the LGUs.

Director Giva stressed that they want local government officials to be accountable and espouse transparency in the implementation of projects.

Arteche Mayor Roland Boie Evardone said that with the limited resources of his municipality, assistance from different agencies like the DILG is a boost to their efforts in providing for the needs of his constituents.

After talking with CSOs, govt officials and the community, Giva said that the department is assured that these projects are being used for the intended purposes, that is, helping people improve their lives. (Eden Cidro/Este News)
