
BORONGAN CITY, February 24, 2020–Church journalists of the Diocese of Borongan in Eastern Samar attended a workshop on online journalism on February 23, 2020..
Thirty-five church journalists serving as media personnel in various church communities in the diocese attended the event.
The journalism workshop, entitled Bootcamp on Online Journalism, was conducted by the CBCP Media Office in collaboration with the Areopagus Communications, Inc.
The workshop centered on the discussion of the new trends of online journalism, mobile journalism, and content management. Aside from these topics, participants of the workshop underwent series of exercises on news writing, photo journalism, and print and online lay-outing.
Msgr. Pedro Quitorio III, the Director of the CBCP Media Office and the Director of the Borongan Diocesan Commission on Mass Media and Social Communications, said that the event aimed to update the local church journalists of the new trends in journalism for various new media platforms while remaining faithful with to church’s mission and effectively addressing the challenges of the new evangelization.
Among the resource speakers during the event were Felipe Salvosa II, the Editor of the news website PressOne.PH, Ronalyn Ramos, a Mutimedia Artist who specializes print and digital design at Areopagus, Niceforo Balbedina, a news correspondent for CBCP News, Sky Ortigas, the Web Designer and Social Media Manager for CBCP Media, and Roy Lagarde of CBCP News and a Board Member of the Philippine Center for Photojournalism.
The Diocese of Borongan, through its Diocesan Commission on Mass Media and Social Communications, manages the Voice of the Word Media Network that ventures on several media platforms such as cable television, radio, print, websites, and social media pages.
