BORONGAN CITY, August 2, 2019—The City Government of Borongan conducted Civil Society Conference at the Borongan People Center on July 30, 2019.
According to Daniel B. Andea, the Assistant City Planning and Development Officer, the conference aimed to conduct CSO accreditation in cooperatives, associations, and professional groups and other organizations.
The said event was attended by presidents and vice-presidents of CSOs operating in the city.
Andea added that accrediting the CSOs is important in order to develop and strengthen partnership of the government and its citizens so that the citizens would be empowered to articulate their needs as they participate in decision making, program planning, implementation and monitoring to make the LGUs efficient in delivering services.
“If these CSOs become accredited, they will be considered for membership of local special bodies such as the local building counsel, local health board and other local special bodies in the local government unit,” Andea stated.
The CSO accreditation is in compliance with the Memorandum Circular No. 2019-72 dated May 22, 2019.
This memorandum circular reiterates the provision of Article 62, Rule 13 of the implementing rules and regulations of the Local Government Code of 1991 mandating Local Government Units to promote establishment and operations of people’s organizations, government organizations and private sectors.
Borongan Mayor Dayan Agda and the newly elected members of the city council were also present in the event. (Gio Costuna / ESTE News)
