ARTECHE, Eastern Samar, July 23, 2019—The Municipality of Arteche has legislated the banning the use of single-use plastic within the Municipal Hall.

According to a recent Executive Order No. 5 Series of 2019, all employees and personnel of the municipal hall are compelled to eliminate the use of single-use plastic such as plastic bags, straw, cups, plates, utensils and styrofoam containers in the daily operations.

Arteche mayor Roland Boie Evardone explained that this executive order encourages all employees and staff of the municipal hall to practice zero-plastic not only in the municipal hall but also within their respective homes.

Evardone believes that the aim of becoming a plastic free municipality should start within the municipal hall among its employees and staff, setting them as examples for other members of the municipality to follow.

Mayor Evardone disclosed that he projects Arteche to become a Plastic Free Municipality by 2020. He considers this effort to ban the use of single-use plastic as a new milestone of the municipality.

Recently, Arteche was recognized for being the first  in Eastern Samar and one of the seven smoke-free municipalities in Region 8.  (Alren Beronio / ESTE News)
