BORONGAN CITY, March 1, 2017—City mayor Maria Fe R. Abunda expressed her support and confidence for vice mayor Fidel V. Anacta, Jr as he takes over as acting mayor of Borongan City starting today, March 1, 2017.
Abunda, along with city accountant Diane Cinco and general services officer Ariel Cuna are serving a three-month suspension by the ombudsman for simple neglect of duty after failing to submit supporting and contract documents for equipment purchased.
Speaking in a press conference, Abunda said she is sure Anacta can do her job for three months since he has already served as Borongan’s mayor for three terms. “I’m sure he can even do better than he did before,” Abunda said.
According to the local government code, Anacta will exercise the powers and perform duties and functions of the local chief executive.
Addressing concerns from job order employees, Abunda said she appeals to Anacta’s kindness that he renew their contracts, many of which will expire by the end of March.
The city has over 200 job order employees including street cleaners, garbage collectors and traffic enforcers. (Medora Quirante / Este News)
