BORONGAN CITY, March 24, 2017–Confirmed HIV-AIDS cases in the province has risen to 29, local health authorities reveal.

According to Dr. Rodel Delgado, provincial HIV-AIDS coordinator, the number is the second highest in Eastern Visayas, next to Leyte.

This has prompted the city population office, to step up its game on HIV-AIDS awareness, by especially targeting its youth.

Starting April, officials from the city local government will visit villages for a program dubbed “Usapan Serye,” where experts will also discuss youth development, importance of education and values formation.

“We partner with the rural health units to bring awareness to our youth in the barangay level,” Mark Lucio Cortado, Population Program Officer said.

Cortado said the population office will provide lectures to the youth while the RHU will provide services.

The National Youth Commission, in a statement, said 65% of HIV patients are aged 15-24. Usapan Serye will run until May 2017. (Medora NB Quirante / Este News)
