MANILA, March 19, 2017–A diverse crowd carrying colorful placards and chanting slogans took the streets in a simultaneous marches across the country Saturday, all with the aim of promoting the sanctity of human life.
Thousands took part and many carried signs that read “Defend life,” and “We choose life”. They chanted slogans including “We value life” and “We protect life”.
Most of the marchers are affiliated with the Knights of Columbus, Columbian Squires, the Daughters of Mary Immaculate.
In Quezon City, beneath sunny skies, men brought their families to the event that included a Mass before the walk around the Quezon Memorial Circle from the nearby Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.
In his homily, Bishop Honest Ongtioco of Cubao said the yearly gathering aims to remind people that “life is a sacred gift from God”.
“It’s something we should value, we should treasure. So this Walk for Life is more of a proclamation of life,” he said.
“We will promote life in all its form, in all its expression,” Bishop Ongtioco added. “Love life, respect life and value life.”
Organizers estimated around 4,000 people who joined the walk in the metro with participants coming from as far as Nueva Ecija and Ilocos Norte.
In Mindanao, marches were held in the cities of Davao, Panabo, Digos, Tagum, Cotabato, Kidapawan, Tacurong, General Santos, Buluan, Surigao, Cagayan De Oro, Malaybalay, Pagadian, Zamboanga, Valencia, Isabela and Bayugan.
On March 4, a simultaneous Walk for Life were also held in several provinces of the Visayas region.
Next Saturday, thousand of K of C members from southern Luzon provinces are expected for another Walk for Life that will be held in Antipolo City. CBCPNews
