Business establishments, houses burned in Borongan

BORONGAN CITY, January 8, 2018–Five buildings were razed by fire that broke in the early morning of January 8 in Barangay Songco this city.

FO2 Wilbur Nebrida, investigator of the Borongan City Fire station said that the fire started at around 1:30 in the morning.

Three commercial and two residential houses burned to the ground.

Initial investigation showed that the blaze started in the carinderia of a certain “mana poya”, and eyewitnesses said the fire was likely to have started from an unattended candle, since the entire province was in power blackout since early evening of January 7.

The eatery was renting a space in the house of Renato Cesista.

According to Nebrida, 8 business establishments including a law office, internet cafe, a beauty parlor, fruit stand and others were destroyed in the fire.

Firefighters from 13 municipal stations helped put out the blaze which was declared under control at 4:09.
