CATARMAN, Northern Samar, March 12, 2018–The three islands of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will soon be connected by two major bridges.
Speaker Pantaleon D. Alvarez recently announced that the construction of two major bridges linking Matnog in Sorsogon and Allen in Northern Samar and Ricardo in Southern Leyte to Surigao City in Mindanao is now considered a priority project of the Duterte administration.
” If Macau and Hongkong is connected with a 55 kilometers bridge and completed in 4 years, the Matnog-Allen and San Ricardo-Surigao bridges can also be realized,” he said.
Alvarez said with the two bridges, travel and the shipment of goods from Luzon to Mindanao and farm products from Mindanao and Luzon will be easier.
With the bridges, inter-island travel will no longer be affected by bad weather, which often keeps ferry boats from sailing, leaving countless travellers stranded in various ports, he added.
According to Alvarez, the Matnog-Allen bridge will be around 12 to 14 kilometers long while the San Ricardo to Surigao spans 18 to 20 kilometers.
He said the House of Representatives will be endorsing the two major bridge projects and will be funded through Official Development Assistance (ODA). (Nestor L.Abrematea/Visayas Times)
