BORONGAN, January 21, 2017–The Local Land Transportation Office has started to issue Driver’s and Conductor’s License with a validity of Five years since December 19, 2016. According to Ms. NarcisaTabarnero, Chief of LTO- Eastern Samar, the roll out of the new license, was suppose to start in November 14 last year, but due to some system adjustment it was delayed by one month.
The new policy is based on an administrative order issued by the LTO Central Office last year, after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the extension of the licenses validity from three to five years.
Covered by the order are Professional and Non- Professional driver’s license and conductor’s license, while student’s license will still have a one year validity.
Applicants will have to present the same requirements–Birth Certificate, Medical Certificate and drug test result, but there is an increase in the license fees.
Meanwhile, new license holders and those who will renew their licenses will have to use their Official receipts as temporary license since there are no available plastic cards yet. The Local Office hopes that they will be given their allocation of plastic cards this month, as promised by the Central Office. (Eden B. Cidro / Este News)
